During Term Two’s Big Sister, Little Sister sausage sizzle and colouring-in activity hour, a very special visitor stopped by to meet the Fahan families and pose for some photographs.
Fahan’s Buddy Bear, the official mascot of the School’s Big Sister, Little Sister program, wore the Fahan uniform with pride and greeted a lot of eager little and big sisters.
“I got to hug Buddy Bear and Buddy Bear was nice and fluffy and she was wearing school uniform,” said Kindergarten student Keala.
The Deputy Head Girl and Junior School Chairs organise a Big Sister, Little Sister event each term in order to encourage interaction amongst students of all ages.
The program helps to facilitate a sense of responsibility in older students while also increasing the support network for younger students, who feel more confident moving through the School after spending time with the older girls.
Principal, Tony Freeman, said that he was pleased with the direction the program was taking this year.
“This year we have amalgamated our own Pastoral Care program with The Alannah and Madeline Foundation’s Better Buddies program,” Mr Freeman said.
“The enthusiasm with which the girls have embraced the program, and its purple mascot, has been fantastic.
“The youngest member of each Fahan family received his or her own little Buddy Bear during the Term One Teddy Bears’ Picnic and now they have had the chance to meet the real live Buddy Bear!”
The sun was shining as the families coloured-in pictures of Buddy Bear and dressed her in various outfits.
All money raised from the sausage sizzle will go towards the Year 12s’ fundraising efforts for the year.
The Year 12s have selected The Alannah and Madeline Foundation as their charity of choice in 2011.
Currently, they are also conducting a Peninsular Extravaganza Weekend raffle for two adults and two children including a three-course dinner, overnight accommodation and breakfast at Homewood, Carlton River; a visit to the Port Arthur Historical Site, including cruise tickets and a meal coupon; a pass to the Tasmanian Devil Park at Tarana; a cruise on the award-winning Tasman Island Cruisers and one night’s accommodation at Fox and Hounds, Port Arthur.
Tickets are $5 or you can purchase a book of six for $25 and get one free.
