Helen trained as an Early Childhood teacher at Melbourne Kindergarten Teachers’ College after which she taught for 6 years with the Tasmanian Education Department. After raising her family, she taught the Kindergarten at Lady Gowrie Child Centre, Hobart, for 25 years, a role that included working with parent groups and conducting workshops for Early Childhood staff.
In 2001 Helen was granted a NEiTA (National Excellence in Teaching Award) award.
Helen believes strongly that early years education should give children every opportunity to follow their interests, develop their strengths and aspire to achieve to the best of their ability, to become confident, capable learners and thinkers who are caring and compassionate, with a desire to discover and to learn.
“Students, parents and staff are embraced as valuable members of the Fahan family, thus giving them a sense of belonging, which helps us in our aim to develop students who have a positive self image and who are self motivated in their learning.
Thinking, questioning, discussing and learning with excitement and purpose are central to the teaching, which embraces much of the Reggio Emilia education philosophy.
