John graduated in Biological Science and worked with the Division of Entomology, C.S.I.R.O. for several years, doing research in the control of insect pests, using nematodes as biological control agents. In 1989, the division moved to Canberra and not desiring this relocation, John began working at Fahan in the Science Department as the Laboratory manager. He doesn't teach but gets to know the students well, in his coaching role in soccer and athletics.
"Working at Fahan is really enjoyable, with its small size, terrific students, friendly supportive teachers and wonderful location. "
